Frequently
Asked Questions
Q1
How much does a flying lesson
cost?
A1 An introductory
flight and up to two more lessons can be
paid for with a voucher
purchased
from the club. Vouchers cost €100
each and entitle the holder to a flight lesson of approximately 30
minutes.
After
three
lessons you need to become a full member of the club. The rate for
members is €120 per hour for student pilots and €110 per hour for
licensed pilots. The cost is pro-rata for times less than an
hour. This price is fully inclusive of fuel, pre-flight
briefing and instruction.
Q2 Can
I buy
vouchers online or
over the phone?
A2 If
getting to the club is inconvenient, you
can
post a cheque for €100 to the
club
with
the name of the purchaser
and the name of the recipient of the voucher and we
post you a
voucher as soon as we can. If you have a credit card, we can take your
details over the phone and post you a voucher.
Q2
How much does membership
cost?
A2 The
cost of temporary membership is included in the
price
of a voucher. Full membership of the club costs €350 per calendar
year (1st Jan to 31st December). A reduced
rate of €175 is charged if you join for the first time on or after 1st
September.
Q3 Can I just
call out to the club and take a lesson?
A3 Firstly, If you are not a
member
you need to fill out a temporary membership form and file this with
the club. You may post it if necessary but it must be a signed hard
copy (not email). Temporary membership forms are available at the
club or
in PDF form on the club
website. Forms must be displayed at
the club for a minimum of three days before membership can be
approved. The committee meets about
once a week to approve new temporary members so be sure to have your
form submitted well in advance of your flying lesson.
Secondly,
there is a booking system in place at the club where you can reserve
a one hour training slot. If you wish to fly at a popular time, such
as the weekend, it is possible you may have to book a couple of weeks
ahead to get the time you want.
Q4 What are
the club operating hours?
A4 The
club is normally open from 6pm
to
9pm on weekdays in the summer time and from 10am to 6pm at weekends
all year. The club is staffed by members who attend voluntarily
and typically have a day job during normal working hours. Since flying
is
dependent on reasonable weather conditions the club may be closed when
weather is bad and outside daylight hours.
Q5 If there
is no answer at the club,
can I
call someone listed on the web site to make a booking?
A5
Unfortunately not as they will not
have
access to the booking sheet which is held at the club. The only
way to book a lesson is to contact somebody at the club by phone
or in person.
Q6
I got a voucher as a gift – when do
I
have to use it by?
A6
Vouchers are valid for one year
after
the date of purchase.
Q7 I
got a voucher as a gift but have
lost
it – can I still fly?
Q7 If you go to the
club with as
much
detail as possible, such as who purchased the voucher, when it was
purchased, etc, it may be possible to locate the record of the
voucher sale and find the serial number. We will then do our best to
arrange a flight although there is no guarantee that we can make this
happen.
