How are our members
are faring?
This page is
dedicated to announcing the achievements of our members.
Those will mostly be reports of success in examinations and flight
tests but not exclusively so. Several members have outstanding
achievements in pursuits outside the club.
Harry Humphreys
went on his first solo in Coonagh on 13th February 2010. He flew
in EI-LFC. He has become among a very elite group or club pilots
who have achieved solo flight around their 16th birthdays. We are
not quite sure, at this moment, if Harry is actually the youngest
man ever to accomplish a first solo in Coonagh, but he certainly
has not missed out on that honour by more than a couple of weeks.
What is much more interesting is that Harry is the third generation
of Humphreys to be pilots at Coonagh. We are well accustomed to
Gerry, Harry's father, flying upside down and scattering smoke around
the field at all kinds of unpredictable moments, but of course Gerry's
father also flew in Coonagh. What a wonderful family tradition,
and thank heavens, and Dan Lehane, that the airfield is still here
for long enough for the Humphreys family to achieve such a wonderful
status.
Martin McMahon
carried out his first solo on Friday 22 January 2010. Congratulations
on that great achievement, and also for being the first to do it
in the New Year.
Neil Rankin
became a real instructor on Friday 22 January 2010 when he sent
the first student on his first solo, that was Martin. A great team
both of you.
Peter Cazalet has achieved his CAA (JAR) PPL
on 4th June 2009. Peter has been working on acquiring his licence
for many years, and recently he decided to travel to France to complete
his examinations and flight test. Best wishes Peter and enjoy your
success, we cheer for you.
Thomas Richter became a member of a very exclusive
group within the club on 11 June 2009. He achieved his first solo
in Coonagh on that day, with a total logged flying time of 7 hours
15 minutes. What is remarkable about his achievement is that Thomas
is in a group of less than five people who have done their first
solo in Coonagh in the past 20 years, with less than 10 hours logged
time. A further remarkable point is that all the other very low
time first solos, that we can remember, were considerably less than
20 years old, but Thomas is considerably older than that tender
age. Well done Thomas, excellent performance.
Joe Hennessy's (R.I.P.) LFC Newsletter 5 part
serial about his time spent as an Operations Manager for Air America
in Udorn, Thailand was copied and filed by the University of Dallas
for use as library research material.
